Pilot Ham. I was initially interested in APRS to replace Spot Tracker to let my family know where I am when flying. When taking my Technical exam the proctor asked if I want to try taking the General since I did well… I said no, “All I need is Technical for APRS”. Three years later I’m attending 2m nets, learning CW, exploring Packet and thinking of using Winlink over HF.
As I’m most interested in intentional comms and emergency comms on low cost+weight+energy budget, I’m using HTs or smaller transceivers.
Pictured are:
- Kenwood TH-K20A in my car with Lido mount and magmount Nagoya UT-72 antenna.
- CA_Tracker 1W APRS tracker for which I did aircraft testing and designed the case.
- APRS.fi track of a flight across Sierras using the 1W tracker.
- My Kenwood with a Signalstick on external 5.2Ah 2s LiPo battery running WoAD (Winlink on Android) via AFSK1200 packet.
- CA_Tracker at 7500ft over Arizona.
I don’t know much (yet), but if I can help with anything, don’t be a stranger, send me an email!
