To ensure my Motorcycle Navigator stays charged and has power to run at maximum brightness, I installed a marine-grade USB charger near the handlebars. It uses leads running across the frame, under the tank, and tapping into the headlights fuse in the fuse-box. This ensures it runs only when key is turned and doesn’t drain the battery otherwise.

I needed to replace my failed vehicle navigator. I use Android phone without a sim card, mounted in a heavy duty case and riveted to a Ram-Ball, then mounted on a handle bar or a suction cup in a car window. Organic Maps app preloaded with offline maps provides navigation when motorcycling, on road trips or car renting when travelling.

An opportunity came up on an SLSA aircraft as my next aeroplane. On paper, it met all my requirements: SLSA or ELSA or EAB, Rotax 912 ULS powered, taildragger, tandem seating, backcountry capable and with more payload, and shorter take-off than my C140.
