I’ve been waiting for my upcoming weekend trip for months! This is to be the highlight of 2026 flying season, a long weekend break from work and an adventure.

As the departure day (planned for today) approached, the weather clearly did not cooperate. First major fall weather front came in with convective1 conditions, low ceilings, precipitation, mountain obscuration, high winds and thunderstorms.

By tomorrow the conditions are supposed to improve to just a gloomy VFR2 flyable day. By Sunday I’m expecting clear skies for my return. Once I’m back, the fly-in season is over and El Ninio is forecast this year to be the strongest on record!!

As they say “When you have time to spare, travel by air”! 😄
