The replacement “premium” gasket for clutch-side engine cover arrived. 3x the price of #Honda cork-n-paper but worth it!! Strong fiber base + nice silicone bead. I laid the bike down, kept oil in, didn’t make a mess, gasket wasn’t sliding during installation and I was done in 20min. Previously, I had the #Grom on a stand and considered laying it down too hacky. But! that way is superior - better lighting, no mess, gasket doesn’t slide…

@gpumoto On a Grom there are only two dowels and OEM gasket is flimsy and wants to fold when getting installed vertically. Grease is a good hint - I will remember for next time :) With modern low emissions fuel injected bikes and less then half tank, this is a total non-event and much quicker job. On carbed bikes, sure even if petcock is closed the bowl will go somewhere. Fire hazard? same as any spray paint or thinner project - same precautions. It was not a proper way, but safety managed.

@gpumoto totally fair to warn others of this!! If I did it to my old DRZ, it would have pissed all over the floor and created s fire hazard. If it flooded into the case and was not caught, the fuel would have made a really bad oil substitute!!
