Clockwise From Upper Left Duke390 Powertronics Changing Tps
(Clockwise From Upper Left Duke390 Powertronics Changing Tps)

Done with #KTM #Babyduke 390 \o/ Installed aftermarket airbox cover filter under the seat. Doubles intake filtered surface area for moar power & sound! Previous owner damaged threads of fairing nut plates by trying to use non-metric bolts. Chased threads with a M6 tap, epoxied cracked catches and replaced one broken catch with a hardwood block + a wood screw!! :) Finally quickened the throttle via Powertronics: 80% twist gives 100% power! whoa!

(Left to Right Ktm Duke 390 Motorcycle On)

With bike on stand and waiting for parts, I couldn’t resist finding something to do. The rear lamp was crooked, so took tail apart & found alignment studs cracked - ordered new lamp. Then upgraded mirrors, ordered intake mod which adds filtered air-path from under the seat and backed up the PowerTronics. Old 112-link chain was stretched a WHOLE link - it NEEDED replacing -> bling orange EK. Waiting for more parts :) No 10mm wrenches were lost 😆

(Clockwise From Top Left Cleaned Up Front Sprocket)

Drivetrain service on #KTM “Baby-Duke” 390 after I measured the chain stretch and it was out of spec. Installed new rear spools, removed the old chain, old front and rear sprockets, removed 4mm of grime in the front sprocket housing, cleaned the chain guides and serviced the air filter. Now I must wait for new parts. I already changed the oil, bled the brakes and flushed with new brake fluid in the spring. 10k miles on this motorcycle so far!!

(Sdr Software Screen on Linux Showing 40m Waterfall)

I setup my RTL-SDR-v3 for HF on #Linux using #SDR ++. Used a 40m EFHW badly strung 5ft off the ground around the garden in #NVIS configuration. I was able to pick up CW from CA, NV, AZ and CA<->TX SSB. Also FT8 and JS8. Problem: on the #CW end of the band, I’m picking up an AM station which I assume is coming in via IF. Do I need real ground? or better common mode choke? Please advise. Having sold my bulky G90, I will use SDR, learn CW and get QCX once I can “hear” :)

New Wheels
(New Wheels)

This is what happens when hobbies spill over - #motorcycles #cars :) The overhaul included new wheels, new dual ignition, new spark plugs, new injectors, new heat shields, new wiring and new instrumentation, along with a good cleaning. This is our ~7 year old #grill with a solid frame, but with rusted out hot side. I replaced $80 worth of parts and now it should last another 7 years :) No waste and it took less time than assembling a new grill.

Selling my #hamradio #Xiegu #G90 with #digirig , cables, USB gps, metal tuning knob, feedline and a nice padded case for mobile work. New ones go for $445, this is as-new but USED, and I’ll let it go for $350 everything pictured included. Nothing wrong with it, I just lost interest in the hobby. Made JS8 contacts as far as east coast 🙂 CW with Hawaii, SSB as far as mid-west!! (all on 10m). For local pickup I’m in 95125, otherwise you pay shipping. Price negotiable.

More #i3 #i3wm tweaking! I finally understand the tree representation and each container being able to have its own layout (ie. nesting!) Hint: adding: bindsym $mod+d layout default and making use of move bindings to move windows within nested tree is awesome - see screenshot. Next I installed autotiling and set it up to be easily enable/disable-able on demand (vs per workspace). So much power and no visual distractions :)

I’m migrating to #Wayland and need a wm which would ease the move. Requirements are: tiling, no window decorations, keyboard driven and config driven. I rediscovered #i3 == #sway which check all my boxes and use common config. After some tweaking, I got it working well with my keybindings and usage patterns. https://i3wm.org/ i3wm.org/ & https://swaywm.org/ swaywm.org/

62mi/100km sunday ride. Made a big loop through local mountain roads (Hwy 9 to Skyline Blvd) to Alice’s which is a popular weekend meeting spot for gear heads. Lots of bikes (from dual sports, to harleys to supersports) and cars (porsches, bmws, lamborghinis, supras, miatas and everything in-between). Had some coffee to warm up while checking out a cool Fiata and an old Alfa Romeo along with various bikes.

Next day I flew via Cajon Pass into Riverside, CA Flabob Airport (RIR) to Low&Slow flyin. Camped and ate well. On Sun marine layer lingered until 11 and short five hours later I was home. Fun was over, back to work.

3.3h on the Hobbs during a post frontal day. Windy, gusty, thermals, bases at 3500 and fun! :) Got cheap fuel at Gustine, CA (3O1) where time stoppped. Pilot lounge was clean, fuel was cheap but ~all hangars were vacant and falling apart :( Runway is in good shape. Wanted to stop at E45 but ceilings were too low, so I swung by O22 where I crossed paths with “Youtube Pilots”.

Innovative #EAB #autopilot (SuperEco) based on aerodynamic trim-tab actuation from Aircraft Automation. Conceptually, it is very elegant. Not sure about RC servo reliability when used continuously, but for <0.5AMU one could replace all three servos every few years. Watch installation and flight demonstration video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3UJoCmkDJFk

followup:

@h4890 hi, I don’t know regs in your country, but in US there is part91 for private owners operators which does not restrict flight over water. Part135 (air carrier) does. Aircraft age - no maximum from safety pov. I have a 77 year old airplane. All airplanes receive annual inspection to ensure continued operation. As long as a given aircraft type has parts availability, then age is not a safety issue. There is increased maintenance cost compared to new aircraft but at MUCH lower acquisition.

I spent about $30 on parts for this. Used a 10ft 2" ABS pipe, U-mounts, scrap wood and a 3d printed adapter to stabilize the antenna against the pole. Next I’ll make some sheet aluminum angle pieces and mount the 6W panel to the rig - I have a week and a half until the fully charged battery drains :)

Q. how to find #bluetooth address of already paired #meshtastic device? I paired it with my android and works great with an app, but I don’t know the full bt mac-addr. BT scanning from my PC doesn’t show it, but shows other devices in pair mode. How to force meshtastic to go into pairing mode? OR how to lookup device’s BT address? OR are multiple clients paired to same meshtastic device supported? I know I can re-flash, which which should reset settings and allow me to pair again.

There is #meshtastic in the air :) Just setup my first node - a rak wireless unit. Uses only about 300mah per day including air sensor. Meshtastic is a 915mhz #lora based, very low power, messaging and beaconing system. Quite similar to #amateurradio #aprs . I upgraded the antenna to a 3dBi, but since LORA is line-of-sight and very low power, I get no range. The only nodes I picked up are those on the hills 10mi away. Next: solar panel, the board already has solar charge controller for 1s lipo.

Internet Printing Protocol #IPP uses a pdf/raster payload and supports config exchange - no more PCL/PS/custom printer languages. No more PPD files and no binary drivers from manufacturers \o/ Now if I could point cups-client to a IPP network printer directly (via client.conf) that would be perfect - faster than avahi and less overhead than having cups-service daemon on my network.

Recently updated my main linux box and couldn’t rebuild one of my own system management tools from 2002. The cause were old #autoconf and #automake artifacts. Spent 2h cleaning up and regenerating from .ac and .am files. Remembered how miserable #autoconf and #automake really are: shell based, slow and dropping a ton of persistent artifacts in my source tree. After finishing, I found #meson as a modern replacement, see: https://mesonbuild.com/Comparisons.html
